1. Who runs VIPA?

VIPA is run by a voluntary and dedicated team of Virgin Australia Group pilots. They form the Committee of Management, which is elected annually by VIPA members through elections conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission. A President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer make up the Executive, and are supported by the Committee members.

We encourage all our members to nominate to join the Committee and have a say in the running of your Association.

2. Why is VIPA the best pilot Association for Virgin Australia Group pilots?

VIPA is an independent Association run by Virgin Australia Group pilots for Virgin Australia Group pilots.

We believe an Association focused on the unique needs of our own pilots will address the issues faced by the pilot group more effectively.

We do not represent any pilots from other airlines or General Aviation, so all resources and focus goes to benefit Virgin Australia Group pilots.

3. How does VIPA gain member input about issues?

Since registration, VIPA has completed many member surveys to determine members’ views on matters affecting their employment and welfare. Surveys have included topics such as EBA priorities, pilot engagement, remuneration, VLF, to name just a few, have been completed. We always welcome individual member input and feedback.

4. Does VIPA have a full time office and staff?

Yes, VIPA has full time office staff to direct your queries to the correct area. Our experienced industrial team address issues, queries and give advice as needed.  As well, the Executive and Committee members play a large role in the assistance of members and providing advice.  We are always contactable by phone (24 hours a day on 1800 116 460).

5. How much are the annual membership fees?

VIPA membership fees are maintained at the lowest level, which is made possible by our significant member numbers. We keep staff and office costs to a minimum to focus resources on our members. Membership fees are levied at $500 + 0.5% of a pilot’s base salary (plus 10% GST). Fees may be paid annually in full or in instalments by direct debit.

6. Does VIPA offer Loss of Licence protection?

VIPA launched the VIPA Loss of Licence Fund (VLF) in 2014 providing the best Loss of Licence protection exclusively for VIPA members. Each year has seen increased benefits and strengthening of our offering.

Virgin Australia will pay the premium directly for VIPA members (as of 1 May each year), so you do not have to pay and claim for a reimbursement. For more information, please go to the VLF – Home page.
